We once again come to you with heavy hearts and difficult news.
At the beginning of this month, portions of Source Matelas were overrun by gangs and vacated. Residents fought back and regained control quickly.
As peaceful weeks went by, people slowly began returning to their homes, including some of JiHM’s staff members and their families.
Last evening, November 29, under the cover of darkness, gangs attacked again.
Many of our Haitian friends lay on the floors of their home, trapped by the gunfire outside their doors as gang members set fire to houses, knowing people were trapped inside.
One member of JiHM’s leadership team was severely injured as he and his wife tried to seek refuge in their home but found themselves face to face with gang members. Their lives were spared only by a miracle.
A young member of Victory Bible Church, recently married, died when his house was burned down.
Other staff and students have lost family members to this senseless violence.
“I don’t have words,” said Pastor Derson. “This is satanic. People are killing each other for no reason.”
We cannot begin to understand why God allows this to go on. But we know that He is good. We know that He cares. We know that He hears His children.
We encourage you to pray as much as you can today, as well as fast if possible.
Trusting in our Savior,
Steve Mooibroek
JiHM Board Chair
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
Lamentations 3:21-24
