Oh, HI, Oh
Hi from Ohio,
Yes, I am on a little break in the queen city of Cincinnati, Ohio. I am staying with my daughter and family. DeAnna is taking a 10 day, 8 hour per day, nursing course with the promise of being placed in a job if she passes.
Marco is going to college at Cincinnati State and working full time so the only way DeAnna could take this 10 day course was if Grandpa came to baby sit. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.
I needed the break; a vacation, a rest. I tend to look at time in 3 month segments while in Haiti. Normally I catagorize a segment as tough or grueling. The last 3 months I would say have been brutal. The day to day life of a missionary in a country that has so many needs, can wear a body down.
So, for the next 10 days I will be baby sitting. Okay, Marco says you can't baby sit your grand kids, you "watch" them. I will be watching my grandkids.
I worked hard for the past couple weeks with Fondi and my staff to get ready to leave. During my absence Fondi and the gang are getting everything ready for our move to the school/church at our property.
This is supposed to be a vacation but while here:
• Will be meeting with our development director making a 3 year plan for our mission and other mission business
• Will be getting caught up on mission work/emails
• I will buy my boys the underwear/socks/school supplies they need for school
• Sharing our work at Sonrise in Fort Wayne this Sunday
• Doing all the normal stuff I can't do in Haiti, haircut, glasses adjusted, medicine refilled, etc...
Getting off the plane and hearing three little ones yell "POPPY" and then have Calvin, Kaylyn and Jayden hit me full blast on a run, was really exciting. Last night as I lay on a mattress next to my bed on the floor, with three kids on me, as I told a bedtime story, I was as happy as a human being could be.
Marco and Dee seem happy to see me also. Marco got his first final grade back, from English class, and got a B. He was excited about that.
As happy as I am to be here, I am already anxious to get back. When I return we will:
• Put the huge army tent up
• Start school for 100 students at our mission property on the 14th of September
• Have our first church service on September 20th at our property, and so much more.
However, while here I will rest, read, and enjoy the wonderful family God has blessed me with. (and have a few quarter pounders) tominohio

Prayer for Mommy Tia
Dear friends,
Our 72 year old Mommy Tia who lives with us has been discharged from the hospital she was in and will be transferred in the morning to the General Hospital downtown.
Three years ago Mommy Tia had surgery for cancer. The cancer has returned and this time it is more serious. Please pray for her surgery, that the doctors will be successful and that God will place his loving hands around Mommy Tia during the next few days, and months.
Please pray, thanks so much, tom
PS- Bobby has recovered from his surgery for internal bleeding and is back in the village with his aunt where he lived before. He wants me to thank all of you for your prayers of recovery, which were answered.
Thank you for your support

da boyz
Dear friends,
I have always considered it an honor by God to be given the title of "poppy" for Manel, Claudy, Tito, Shadrach, Dearson, Matthew, Sonson, Jay, Steven, Sonal, Jony, Peterson, Addrianno, Ricardo and Maxim. A few of the older boys have moved out and we are down to this group, plus Mommy Tia, Stephanie and her daughter, Roger and Altimae, 20 in all.
Being the one responsible, the parent, I see what you don't. I get to deal with the problems, the complaints, the laziness and all the fun stuff you deal with when you have kids, mostly teenagers.
Seeing the teenage side of them, sometimes makes me forget what a great bunch of young people God has blessed me with.
Yesterday I went to town and Dearson, Shadrach, Sonson and Tito went with me. It is about a 6 hour ordeal, 2 hours going, 2 hours shopping, 2 hours back. As soon as we left, I started a Bible question game. This went on for most of the 6 hours nonstop. We had so much fun naming the 10 commandments; books of the Bible, naming prophets, people mentioned that weren't named, miracles, names of God and so much more.
At one point, Tito said Bible was a name of God. The boys just roared. For 15 minutes they laughed at that answer. They asked him if God's first name was Holy. However, I was thinking, if Tito ever took this case before Judge Judy, he could use John 1:1 and actually have a leg to stand on.
I see the boys load the truck with the sound system, unload it at church, load it back up to bring home to unload, every week for 4 years.
I see them playing soccer with the boys in the dump, on broken glass, empty cans and trash.
I watch them lovingly and tenderly play with the orphans at the Good Samaritan orphanage.
They help me with kids clubs in the villages.
I actually catch them reading their Bible when they don't "have" to. I hear Claudy ask about being a pastor, and then others this week talk about that. I see them help with our younger boys, feeding, bathing and playing with them.
I was thinking how blessed I am. I was thinking that these guys really are becoming ministers of the Gospel. These are young men who will change Haiti for Christ.
I also want to thank the hundreds of you who have poured into my families lives. While here, then with emails, phone calls, gifts, and prayer.
I have no idea how this will all turn out, or what they will be doing in 10 years but I am confident that as Philippians 1:6 says "being confident that He who has begun a good work in you, will continue it until the day of Jesus Christ." These young people are the ones who will continue the good work, no matter what vocation they are called to, no matter where they are. They are the future of our ministry, of our church.
I am blessed to be called "poppy" by so many. They make me proud to be their dad and thankful that 11 years ago I answered the call, to come to Haiti. FOR GOD SO LOVED HAITI, HE SENT ME......................and I am very grateful I was chosen. Thank you Lord, may I be worthy of the call you have put on my life. tominhaiti

Hurricane Season is Here
Dear friends,
Tomorrow morning, our first hurricane/storm moves past Haiti so we will be getting wet. This storm won't be real bad they say but Thursday's storm/hurricane is supposed to be much stronger.
As you remember, we got hit hard last year, had our orphanage wiped out, and many died and thousands were homeless. We are praying this does not happen this year.
Property update: The past month we were finally given the go ahead to begin to build our new church/school. However it will be several months before the building is ready to use so..............we have a tent, 40' by 60 'that just arrived this week and I am going to pick it up today.
We will be using this tent for school starting September 14th, for our 100 students, and on September 20th, we will be having our FIRST church service, at our new property, in the tent. This move has generated much excitement with our students and staff and congregation.
This move has brought many expenses that we are working on. Things such as:
bathroom being built
new desks for 100 students being built
22 pews for church
kitchen area for school
trash cans
two live in guards for our property
water for 100
water trucked in for toilet
black boards
expense of sending tent
expense of customs tax for tent
gas stove for cooking (no more charcoal)
office equipment for school director and
transportation for nearly 80 students, daily.
Along with over $3000 worth of school books.
Also, 3 new teachers bringing our school staff to a total of 19.
God has blessed us with most of the funds to get the above done; we are still about $3000 short so if you can help, please designate it to "property move."
As I shared, our pastor Jackie resigned from Victory Bible church. Our first service last week without him went well, as I preached. This week, we had fellowship night. We have had these once a month services in the past, this is the first one in nearly 3 years. What we do is start out the service with about 40 minutes of praise and worship. Then we broke the 250 people up into 8 groups. Each group had one of our staff as a leader.
The groups spent time introducing each other and getting to know each other. Each group had to sing their favorite praise song. (this was a hoot and a blessing)
We had a discussion question that each group spent about 15 minutes talking about then each group gave their thoughts on the discussion.
During this time, pastor Roger and myself passed out a sack lunch to each of the nearly 250 people who came. The lunch had a pack of cookies, ham sandwich, cold juice and a bag of chips, along with a toothbrush. The people were thrilled.
The children were in junior church doing their own thing, food for them also. What a great night but the best part is what happened later. One of our staff was sick and was not at church to lead his group. I asked my son, Claudy, to lead the group. Now, the first time I asked Claudy to translate for me in church, he broke into a sweat and said he could never speak in front of people. I kept at him and finally he began to translate for me and over time even began to introduce visitors.
When I asked him Saturday to lead this group, he said "yes." I then had the thrill of watching him lead his 25 or so people. He took charge and did a fantastic job. Later at home he came up to me and said "poppy, do you think you could send me to some type of college, to learn how to preach?" Wow, I was overwhelmed and said "I would sell both my kidneys to make that happen."
This week at church, we are showing a movie, the life of John. We have moved the service to 6pm so it will be dark when we show it. We will have 400+ for the movie.
Friday we took a 600 gallon water tank to the garbage dump and filled it with water. The people were so happy; they now have water every day. This is a new expense, about $80 per week so if anyone would like to help with this new expense and cover a week, I won't say no.
We also bought two baby beds for the Good Samaritan orphanage thanks to our friends in Washington. Pastor Jason, the babies and nanny's are happy.
Last Thursday I stood before nearly 60 young adults in Merjay at English class. I had the chance to share what being a follower of Christ was. For 45 minutes I shared. For the entire time, it was quiet, and every single eye was on me. As I spoke, I was nearly overwhelmed at what I was doing. To be able to do what the apostle Paul did, what Billy Graham did, what my father did, and what many of you do, is so awesome.
I remember thinking; I am fulfilling my purpose for life doing this and what an honor it was. I am confident that in this group there will be several young men and women who will become fully trained leaders, who will reach their village of Merjay, for Christ.
Time to go, thanks for reading this, thanks for partnering with us to reach Haiti for Christ, one life at a time. tominhaiti

It Is Written
Dear friends,
Just a little update: Victory Bible Church: This week was very sad for us as our pastor, Jackie Delice resigned. Pastor Jackie has been our pastor for 2 1/2 years and we love him and his family so much. Pastor's reason was that he felt God had something else for him and he could not commit his whole heart to our church. I accepted his resignation but there were many tears shed Wednesday at our staff meeting.
Last night I shared with the congregation that Pastor Jackie has resigned and we took the time to honor and thank him, although he was not in attendance. Please pray for our church as we seek to find a permanent replacement for our pastor.
Victory Bible Church continued: We only have a couple services left at the church we now rent on Saturday nights. In early September we will be meeting at 8 a.m. on Sunday at current church, and walking the mile and a half to our mission property, to have our first church service on site, in our big tent.
Grace Emmanuel: Speaking of the tent, this large 40' by 60' tent is leaving Florida on August 13th. We hope to have it a few days after that so we can set it up. This tent will be home to VBC, and will hold about 250 people. The tent will also be our school divided up in to the 10 classrooms we need.
The tent has brought lots of excitement and energy to our ministry. We anticipate being in the tent for about 6 months while our new building is being built, finally.
Sponsorships: We have 16 new students this year at our school that will need to be sponsored. In a few days all 16 pictures will be on our jesusinhaiti.org website for you to choose and sponsor. We are praying to get all of these students sponsored quickly, as this is about $500 of our monthly budget so badly needed.
Club 365: We will also have information in the next couple days about how you can be a part of this club, which is such a vital part of our daily ministry. Thanks to the dozens of you who participated in this for the past year. It is a unique way to honor someone you love, by helping sponsor one day of our ministry. More info coming.
Voodoo dust: Many of you asked me what this was. It is a powder that the voodoo master makes, then puts a curse on it and when someone comes in contact with it, they fall under that curse. Sometimes it is thrown at someone or put on the ground and if someone steps in it, they can be cursed. Normally the curse is going lame in your legs, one or both.
Many, many people have died from curses, so say the people. That is something that I guess we can never be sure of but it is what they say.
Finances: As we make our move to our new property, for church and school, we have many financial needs. The first priority is getting a bathroom built, and benches made. It would be difficult to start school without a bathroom or benches. We are about $2,000 short to complete 22 benches, and a bathroom for our school kids. (a real bathroom)
Church last night: With pastor leaving kind of sudden, I was a last minute replacement for preaching last night. I preached on Matthew 4 and how Jesus handled the temptations Satan threw at him.
I had one of my boys, Sonson, dressed to look like Satan, and he stood close to me while I preached on whether Satan is real, is he dangerous, should we fear him. The secret I shared was to fight Satan with scripture. That is what Jesus did in Matthew 4. He said "it is written, then he answered."
As I talked about thoughts and temptations Satan puts in our way, every time I gave the answer, "Satan it is written" and gave a verse to go along with it. What was unique is every time I said it is written, I hit Satan over the head with my Bible. I kept telling people to hit Satan with the Bible, which I did 10 or 12 times to Sonson.
It was a great visual which the people really liked and understood. Sonson has a hard head so he is okay.
Thanks: Thanks again for all your help. This ministry could not happen without you. May God bless all you do and touch, tominhaiti
