Dead Man Walking

Today a wonderful group of people came to Haiti from Cornwall church in Washington. We met them and along with 3 of my boys took them and their luggage to Kalico Beach. When we pulled in, I saw a dead guy at the gate, he said hi, I said hi. Okay, the rest of the story. Last year this young mans brother came to me and told me that his brother Ebert had died. I was so sad as I knew Ebert. I helped his brother Fredo get some shoes for the funeral. Well, lo and behold, Ebert came back to life.
Prayer request: Jony has a bad hernia and while singing at church Saturday, it forced it's way out (groin area) and he was in much pain. He is going to a medical clinic in the morning, I assume surgery will be needed. Pray for Jony and the expense of this.
Junior Church: Our kids program had been going down the past year and we made the mistake many churches make, we never really trained the staff and they never got a break. Seemed they were burned out. I made a decision to give them a break and along with my boys, I took over Junior church for June. They were happy for the break. That first Saturday of June, we only had 34 kids but it was a starting point. I told my boys and the kids our goal was to have 10 more kids each week. So, June 7th-34 kids, June 14th-44 June 21st-57.
The first 3 weeks, we gained 10+ kids each week. Yesterday I was worried, it was so hot. We got down to junior church and I thought it might be close. I counted..............66 and our goal was 67. I thought "oh no we can't miss it by one", I looked outside and about 20 yards away, I saw about a 10 year old boy sitting under a tree. I quickly went outside and said "would you like to come to Junior church and have fun with us". He of course said..."NO". I said "great" and picked him up and threw him over my shoulders and walked back into junior church, and 66 clapping and yelling kids. We hit our goal, next week 77, will be tough.
Blast from the past: okay, funny story speaking of kids clapping. 10 years ago I was the missionary speaker at a camp in Missouri. The last day, the grabbed me and drug me about 100 yards to the pool. I struggled and fought the whole way, in fun of course. By the time I got thrown into 15 feet of water, I was so out of breath, I could not swim to the side. I remember thinking, "wow, I never thought that when I died, it would be with 200 kids clapping and yelling my name". I somehow managed to get to the side, avoiding drowning by not much.
Club365club: Wow, we are up to nearly 40 members. My admiration for the kids at Vacation Bible school, from Robinson Baptist church for bringing 6000 pennies, or 600 dollars and selecting 3 days for next year. My new, tiny heroes. Now, the rest of you, what are you waiting for, this would be great for your SS class, men's prayer group, ladies Bible study, or any of 100 other things. One dear friend said "oh, I have a year to pay, I am going to save my pennies every day and sponsor a day next June. Nice. Thanks to all of you who have signed up, the rest of you go to our website www.jesusinhaiti.org and check out the calender.
My tribute: My dear friend Len Dietz is having heart trouble and for now, the doctors can't do anything. "Uncle" Len is nearly 90. (he won't tell me). His daughter in law says he only gets my mass emails, not the several personal emails I have sent in past month so, Uncle len, I have something to tell you. I know you are having a hard time, please know we are all praying for you. Your trip here a couple months ago was the highlight of my year. Remember the trophy you received from our church, THE CHRISTIAN SERVICE AWARD? We have only given away ONE, you my friend. That award was for 70+ years of kingdom building around the world, including here in Haiti. You promised me you would come back so I am going to pray that ticker better. However, if God chooses to take you to Heaven, I know you are ready. Please Uncle Len tell my folks what you saw. Tell them what God is doing. Tell them how much I love and miss them and oh yeah, tell my mom to leave a light on, she will understand. I love you Len!
On tap: Tomorrow Marco comes back from Ohio. Tuesday another dear friend from Rollins Church in Manton, Barb comes. (okay, just because she was my high school sweetheart, don't read anything into the fact she is coming to visit) She will be staying in the Jeanty's guest room and we are looking forward to her visit.
Tuesday and Wednesday we will be sharing our ministry with our Washington friends, including a cookout with over 600 hot dogs for the folks at the dump, and our orphanage. Friday we are having a cookout for staff, family and some of our Arab friends here in Haiti.
Please pray for all of our activities as we pray for you and all you do. Together, we must continue to be Jesus to a world who so badly needs hope. Tell them God created them special will ya, tell them God loves them will ya, tell them God has a plan for their life. Will ya tell them?
Thanks, tominhaiti
